Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Mental Health Service (MHS) and the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) are set to expand access to mental health services in Qatar with the launch of new specialist clinics within primary healthcare settings.

This initiative, aimed at improving mental health care accessibility while reducing stigma, will see the addition of 24 new mental health clinics at various PHCC facilities. The new clinics will be located at Al Waab, Al Sadd, Al Mashaf, Qatar University, and Al Wajba Health Centers, ensuring more convenient access for patients seeking assessment, treatment, and support for mental health conditions.

Dr. Majid Al Abdulla, Chairman of Psychiatry at HMC, expressed his satisfaction with the early successes of the partnership, noting that patients have responded positively to the new integrated services. “My patients were very happy with the new arrangements. We are keen to continue working together to build on this success,” he said.

The collaboration between HMC and PHCC will integrate mental health services into primary care, allowing for the simultaneous management of both physical and mental health issues. This integration is expected to reduce waiting times and improve the overall standard of care for patients, as well as address the barriers that have historically limited access to specialized mental health services.

Dr. Samya Al Abdulla, Operations Executive Director at PHCC, highlighted the significance of the partnership, stating: “The partnership between PHCC and HMC Mental Health Service has been instrumental in facilitating this expansion, ensuring that patients have greater access to essential services in a familiar and supportive environment.”

The expansion of these mental health services also aligns with HMC’s ongoing efforts to finalize the redevelopment of the hospital on Salwa Road, which will further enhance the delivery of mental health care across Qatar.

This initiative represents a significant step forward in providing comprehensive, accessible mental healthcare to the population, aligning with the broader goals of improving healthcare outcomes and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health treatment.
