SASKATOON, SK — Saskatchewan Blue Cross has pledged a generous $25,000 donation to the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Saskatchewan, aimed at supporting mental wellness initiatives across the province. The funds will help facilitate the CMHA Saskatchewan 2025 Provincial Mental Health Conference, set for May 2025, and bolster mental wellness programs tailored for Newcomers to Saskatchewan.

Kelly Wilson, President and CEO of Saskatchewan Blue Cross, expressed the company’s commitment to community well-being, saying, “Our vision is to see a future of lifelong health and well-being for every person in Saskatchewan, including our Newcomers. We understand that mental health plays an important role in achieving this, which is why we’re so proud to invest in CMHA Saskatchewan’s initiatives.”

The funds will also support CMHA Saskatchewan’s targeted programs for immigrants, addressing the growing mental health challenges they face. Research from the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health indicates that the mental health of newly arrived immigrants often deteriorates the longer they stay in Canada. In response, CMHA Saskatchewan is focusing on developing mental wellness courses that empower Newcomers, with content tailored to diverse cultural backgrounds, languages, and experiences.

Trevor Gates, Executive Director of CMHA Saskatchewan, expressed gratitude for the partnership, stating, “CMHA Saskatchewan is grateful for our partnership with Saskatchewan Blue Cross. Together, we are building strong, inclusive communities. Their support as Title Sponsor for our Provincial Conference and for mental wellness initiatives for Newcomers is invaluable.”

The challenges of immigration extend beyond physical adaptation to a new environment; they often include emotional and mental health struggles. Gates emphasized that, “Immigration is not just a physical journey; it’s an emotional and mental one too. The stress of adapting to new environments can be overwhelming, but resilience and community support can help rebuild a sense of belonging and hope.”

CMHA Saskatchewan’s annual conference serves as a pivotal event for advancing community mental healthcare, bringing together experts, advocates, and community members to share strategies and solutions. As a long-standing sponsor, Saskatchewan Blue Cross continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting mental health initiatives that make a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals and communities throughout Saskatchewan.

With this latest donation, Saskatchewan Blue Cross continues to play a vital role in promoting mental wellness and enhancing the support systems available to individuals across the province, particularly for those adjusting to new lives in Canada.
