STURGEON BAY, Wis. — Jeep enthusiasts and community supporters alike are invited to hit the road for a cause that’s close to home. On Friday, May 10, the United Way of Door County will host a Jeep Poker Run to benefit STRIDE, the county’s school-based mental health program for students.
While Jeep drivers are the event’s namesake, all vehicles and participants are welcome to join the fun and support youth mental wellness. The event kicks off at Kitty O’Reilly’s in Sturgeon Bay with registration and a light breakfast buffet, both included in the $50 registration fee. A brief driver meeting will be held at 11:00 a.m., before participants set off on a scenic journey across Door County.
Throughout the day, players will visit participating venues to build their poker hands, with stops including AC Tap, Lake Fire Winery, Mink River Basin, and Valmy Happy Hour. The run concludes at The Thirsty Cow Taphouse in Baileys Harbor, where the community is invited for games, prizes, and live music. The top poker hand of the day will take home a $500 cash prize.
A Drive for Mental Health
Proceeds from the event will directly support STRIDE, an internal initiative of the United Way of Door County that provides barrier-free access to mental health counseling for local students. In the 2023–24 school year alone, nearly 70 students received over 1,200 hours of individual mental health services through STRIDE.
“STRIDE has become a vital lifeline for students in our schools,” said Amy Kohnle, Executive Director of United Way of Door County. “Events like this help us ensure that no child is left without the support they need, when they need it most.”
The Jeep Poker Run promises a day of fun and purpose, combining Door County’s scenic beauty with an important cause—supporting youth mental health. Whether you’re behind the wheel or cheering from the sidelines, your involvement helps make a difference.
