MESA COUNTY, Colo. – The Mesa County Board of Commissioners has approved a $301,000 contract between the Colorado Department of Human Services, Behavioral Health Administration, and the Mesa County Co-response Program. The funding was officially approved during the board’s regular public hearing on April 22.
The Co-response Program, which pairs mental health clinicians with Mesa County Sheriff’s deputies, responds to 911 calls involving mental health or substance use crises. This collaborative approach ensures that individuals in crisis receive immediate care, helping to prevent unnecessary arrests and hospitalizations.
The newly allocated funds will support the continuation of two full-time and one part-time clinician positions, all of whom play a key role in delivering timely and appropriate mental health services to those in need.
Since its inception, the Co-response Program has significantly improved public safety and expanded access to mental health resources across Mesa County.
