Garberville, CA — SoHum Health has officially launched a new mental health initiative in partnership with Senior Life Solutions, bringing targeted support to older adults in Southern Humboldt. The program is now available at Jerold Phelps Community Hospital, located at 733 Cedar Street, Garberville, CA.
The Senior Life Solutions program is an intensive outpatient group therapy initiative created to address the unique emotional and psychological challenges faced by seniors — particularly those aged 65 and older — as they navigate the complexities of aging, including grief, isolation, and major life transitions.
Addressing Mental Health in Older Adults
Mental health challenges in older populations are frequently underdiagnosed and undertreated. Senior Life Solutions aims to change that by offering structured group therapy sessions that provide a safe space for emotional healing and community connection.
Common issues addressed through the program include:
- Depression and anxiety
- Grief following the loss of a loved one
- Difficulty sleeping
- Decreased energy or appetite
- Feelings of hopelessness or worthlessness
- Withdrawal from previously enjoyed activities
- Adjustment to traumatic or life-altering events
The program begins with an individual assessment and provides up to three therapy sessions per week in a supportive group environment. Seniors can attend in person or opt for teletherapy services via phone or computer, offering flexible access for those with mobility or transportation challenges.
