The Josie Hotel in Trail recently hosted a successful fundraiser, raising $80,000 in support of the newly launched Mental Health Matters campaign, which aims to revitalize mental health care services at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH). The evening’s event brought together community members and healthcare professionals to discuss the importance of improving mental health facilities and initiatives in the region.

A Successful Fundraising Event

The campaign’s first fundraiser featured speeches from Dr. Claire Fantus, head of psychiatry at KBRH, and Dr. Matthew Halstead, a mental health and substance use physician, who emphasized the growing need for enhanced mental health services. Dr. Fantus and Dr. Halstead highlighted how critical it is to address the rising demand for mental health care in the community.

“Mental health is a growing priority in our community, and we are incredibly proud to contribute to this important cause through such a meaningful event,” said Robert Murray, general manager of the Josie Hotel.

Supporting Mental Health at KBRH

The Mental Health Matters campaign is dedicated to improving mental health facilities and services at KBRH, with a focus on providing individuals in the Kootenay Boundary region with the care and support they need. The proceeds from the event will go directly toward funding upgrades, modernizing equipment, and enhancing resources and programs at the hospital.

“We are excited to continue this momentum as we work to make a lasting impact on mental health care in the Kootenay Boundary region,” said Lisa Pasin, executive director of the KBRH Health Foundation.

This successful fundraiser marks a significant step toward improving mental health care in the region, and the campaign aims to continue raising awareness and support for essential services that are crucial to the well-being of the community.
