HMP Global’s Psych Congress Partners with Sleep Research Society Foundation to Address Sleep and Mental Health Disorders

by Daphne Watson

An exciting new collaboration between HMP Global’s Psych Congress and the Sleep Research Society Foundation (SRSF) is set to tackle the complex relationship between sleep disorders and mental health. This expanded partnership will bring a broad spectrum of diagnostic and treatment strategies for the co-occurring challenges of sleep and mental health disorders, with future conference sessions focusing on the latest research and clinical applications.

Addressing a Critical Gap in Mental Health Care

Psych Congress is widely recognized as the leading resource for psychopharmacology education in the U.S., providing mental healthcare professionals with in-person and virtual programs that cover every stage of their clinical careers. The new partnership with the Sleep Research Society Foundation aims to fill an important gap in psychiatry education—helping professionals better understand how to manage sleep disorders alongside mental health conditions.

Dr. Philip Gehrman, President of SRSF, highlighted the importance of this collaboration, stating, “By expanding the Psych Congress programming to include sleep and circadian science alongside mental health, we are bridging critical gaps in care.” He added, “This partnership reflects our shared commitment to a more holistic approach to mental well-being, where sleep health is recognized as an integral component of overall mental health treatment and recovery.”

The Link Between Sleep Disorders and Mental Health

Research consistently shows that nearly 50% of insomnia cases are linked to mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, and psychological stress. Additionally, many other disorders—including mania, PTSD, OCD, and substance use disorders—are commonly associated with sleep difficulties. This connection underscores the importance of addressing sleep disturbances when treating mental health disorders.

The expanded programming at Psych Congress, developed in partnership with SRSF, will strengthen the existing educational offerings and provide mental healthcare providers with the latest clinical strategies. These will cover a wide range of topics related to sleep and mental health, helping professionals gain the knowledge they need to address the co-occurring disorders that affect so many patients.
