TULSA, Okla. — The 2025 Children’s Mental Health Fair took place on Thursday, offering valuable mental health resources and educational support to families in Tulsa. The event was organized by the City of Tulsa, in collaboration with the Children’s Behavioral Health Partnership of Tulsa, the Mental Health Association Oklahoma, Empowered Voices, and Tulsa Public Schools.

Rebecca Hubbard, the City of Tulsa’s Chief Mental Health Officer, emphasized the importance of providing families with access to mental health education, noting that many parents are unsure how to recognize or address mental health issues in children. “Often, we don’t know how to talk about children’s mental health or even what mental health is. Events like this provide families with essential information on available services and support, helping them identify if their child may be struggling,” Hubbard said.

Hubbard also highlighted the critical need for early intervention in addressing children’s mental health concerns. Citing research from Duke University, she explained that mental health disorders often show symptoms before the age of 14. “By catching these issues early, we can reduce the severity of symptoms and improve long-term outcomes. The brain undergoes significant changes during childhood, making it crucial to monitor for signs of mental health challenges during these formative years,” she added.

In addition to the educational component, Hubbard expressed her joy at seeing families come together to learn and enjoy the event. “It’s amazing to watch children having fun, as that’s what childhood is all about—learning, growing, and enjoying life. Seeing families and parents interact, both in good times and challenging moments, reinforces our commitment to supporting them every step of the way,” she said.

The event served as a reminder of the ongoing need for mental health awareness and support for young people, with the goal of fostering healthier, more resilient families in Tulsa.
