Mental Health First Aid Courses Coming to Carlisle and Workington

by Daphne Watson

Every Life Matters has announced a series of Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) courses to be held in Carlisle and Workington this summer. The courses aim to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge to identify signs of mental health struggles in others and provide support in times of need.

The courses will take place on May 20 and 21 at Carlisle Youth Zone, and on June 23 and 24 at Energus in Workington. Each session is designed to give participants the confidence to recognize mental health issues and offer support to those who might be struggling, whether personally or within their community.

Hannah Cleasby, an experienced MHFA trainer and associate trainer for Every Life Matters, will lead the courses. Cleasby is passionate about mental health support and believes that the skills learned in these sessions can make a significant difference in people’s lives.

A spokesperson for Every Life Matters said, “The course will equip Mental Health First Aiders with the knowledge and skills to spot signs of a person experiencing poor mental health. It will also provide the confidence to support themselves and others.”

Participants will also gain access to the MHFAider Support App®, which provides 24/7 digital support and exclusive resources, ensuring that individuals have ongoing assistance after the course.

In addition to the face-to-face training, Every Life Matters will also offer a Mental Health First Aid Refresher course online on June 3, specifically aimed at individuals who completed their initial MHFA course three years ago and want to refresh their skills. This course will give attendees the opportunity to practice applying the MHFA action plan in a supportive, updated format.

The course costs £215 per person, while the Mental Health First Aid Refresher course is priced at £95. These courses provide invaluable support to individuals who want to better understand mental health and make a real difference in their communities.

One previous attendee shared their experience, saying: “I thought the course and course content was fantastic. Hannah delivered the course with a great deal of feeling, it was very obvious she has a passion to spread the mental health support message. I feel far more confident now in many aspects of MHFA, but especially how to initiate a conversation with someone who I suspect may be struggling.”

These courses offer a chance for anyone interested in becoming more aware of mental health to receive valuable training, ultimately helping to build a more supportive community for those who need it most.
