Toni Frostick, a 40-year-old artist from Harlow, is preparing to run 100 kilometers in one day to raise funds for Mind in West Essex, a mental health charity that provided crucial support for a close friend in need. The challenge, the London 2 Brighton Ultra Challenge, will take place on May 24 and will test Toni’s endurance like never before.

A seasoned distance runner, Toni previously ran a 50-kilometer event in 2023 to support Bipolar UK, but this upcoming ultramarathon will push her to new limits. She is raising funds for Mind in West Essex, which provides essential mental health services in Harlow, Epping Forest, and Uttlesford, as a way to “give back” after the charity helped her friend recover from psychosis.

“I’m so proud of my friend’s recovery, and I’ve continued to rely on Mind for guidance in supporting my volunteers and staff. They do incredible work for our community, and this is my way of giving back,” said Toni.

Toni works as the operations manager at Harlow Art Trust, where she supports staff, volunteers, artists, and visitors. Through her role, she uses resources and training from Mind in West Essex, including The Mental Health Toolkit, to help guide her work.

As a pastels artist at Parndon Mill Studios in Harlow, Toni knows firsthand how mental health impacts not only individuals but their loved ones as well. “Mental health touches us all—whether we experience challenges directly or through someone we love,” she explained. “The team at Mind in West Essex does exceptional work, providing crucial mental health support as well as activities and events that promote mental wellbeing and awareness.”

With the ultramarathon just around the corner, Toni has ramped up her training, recently completing a 50-kilometer run. She shared, “That was my first ultra-distance run since my last big race, and I’m feeling so much better than I did back then.”

Toni has already raised over £500 of her £600 fundraising goal, with her determination and commitment continuing to inspire those who are supporting her cause. Through her extraordinary effort, she hopes to make a positive impact on mental health services and raise awareness of the importance of accessible mental health support in the community.
