In a groundbreaking move for Delaware public schools, the New Castle County Vocational Technical School District (NCCVT) and St. Georges Technical High School have unveiled the first-ever Sean’s Room, a dedicated space for student mental health and well-being. This initiative, launched in partnership with the SL24 UnLocke the Light Foundation, is designed to provide students with a safe, supportive environment where they can find peer support, decompress, and prioritize their mental health.
The room, which offers a variety of spaces for studying, lounging, yoga/meditation, and play, is equipped to address the diverse needs of students. It aims to foster a culture that normalizes mental health discussions and assures students that they are not alone in their struggles. Sean’s Room serves as a space for students to take a break, access mental health resources, and engage in activities that help them manage stress and anxiety in a healthy way.
“Sean’s Room provides a safe and supportive space where students can take a break, seek resources, and prioritize their mental well-being, helping them navigate challenges in a healthy way,” said Justin Comegys, Principal of St. Georges Technical High School. He emphasized the growing need for such spaces, especially as schools continue to confront the effects of stress and anxiety on student success.
“Having accessible support can truly make a difference in their lives,” Comegys added.
By creating Sean’s Room, St. Georges Technical High School is taking an important step toward ensuring that students have the tools and support they need to thrive emotionally and academically. The opening of this space is part of a larger effort to provide more accessible mental health resources to students in schools, encouraging them to seek help and prioritize their mental health.
