Tulane University Launches 24/7 Virtual Mental Health Support for Students

by Daphne Watson

Tulane University is enhancing its mental health services with the introduction of Mental Health Complete, a new telehealth service designed to provide behavioral health care, crisis management, and mental health coaching to students. Launched on January 13, 2025, the initiative is part of Tulane’s ongoing commitment to support the mental and emotional well-being of its student body.

Mental Health Complete is the result of a partnership between the Tulane University Medical Group and Campus Health and Wellness. The program offers students a range of services, including virtual mental health coaching, live video sessions with professional coaches, and on-demand mental health tools. Students can also schedule virtual therapy and psychiatry appointments with licensed providers, with the option for medication prescriptions through virtual psychiatry sessions.

In addition to counseling and psychiatric services, the program features self-guided modules to help students manage stress, improve sleep, address relationship issues, and tackle challenges such as anxiety, substance addiction, and smoking cessation. These resources aim to provide holistic support to students in a convenient and accessible format.

The service is available seven days a week and is free of charge to students who have paid the university’s health fee. This eliminates the need for students to rely on insurance coverage, making mental health support more accessible.

Mental Health Complete is part of Tulane’s broader efforts to position itself as a leader in student mental health. The program complements other campus initiatives, including Wave of Support, which offers a variety of services to address students’ mental health needs. In-person therapy, psychiatric care, and a 24/7 Crisis Support Line are also available through Tulane’s Counseling and Psychiatric Services.

Sarah Cunningham, Vice President of Student Affairs, expressed her excitement for the new service, emphasizing how it enhances access to mental health resources. “Mental Health Complete will increase access to mental health services, be available on short notice, eliminate travel times, and provide students the ability to activate resources from the privacy and comfort of their own spaces,” she said.

The program also aims to address health disparities caused by factors such as race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status. Caesar C. Ross III, Assistant Vice President of Campus Health and Wellness, noted that providing accessible health coaching is a step toward reducing preventable health disparities, helping students maintain their well-being while managing academic challenges.
